I am sorry to have to break the news to you but self-help books will not be able to help you with the processing of traumatic events. It is important that you find a capable therapist or some other type of
person to work with to aid you in the trauma resolution work required.
Trauma means your brain cannot heal it alone. You will need to find someone to help you heal any memories that are stuck in short-term memory.
I have heard several instances where a client has read every self-help book out there and has done all they can do on their own to heal and it has not helped them. Sometimes this ends up re-traumatizing a person. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes self-help books are great but not in the case of trauma where events are stuck in your short-term memory.
Sometimes workbooks are helpful in the case of trauma to bring more awareness and a better understanding of yourself and your experiences.
